Why the IST Silicone Soft Flex Tube Snorkel is a Worthwhile Purchase

When shopping for scuba gear at a dive shop, it would rather be easy to get confused with the extensive selection on display. Oftentimes, the gear's basic features are presented with such brazen technicality to end up unintelligible to a first time buyer. Nonetheless, what's key to a worthwhile purchase is knowing 1) what you really need, 2) how frequent you intend to snorkel or scuba dive, and 3) what features of a particular scuba gear can improve your efficiency. Remember that not all scuba gears are created equal. While full-featured gears will work with scuba and snorkeling pros, a basic gadget is most likely suited to a beginner.

The Silicone Soft Flex Tube Snorkel from scuba gear manufacturer IST Proline is one of those gadgets that have been streamlined for performance; retaining only basic functionalities that are deemed to be truly essential in the conduct of water sports. Read below for the features and functionalities of this impressive piece of snorkel.

Designed for Convenience: The snorkel is constructed from extremely lightweight silicone that makes it compact and convenient for travel. Its snorkel keeper easily attaches to the strap of your scuba mask without a fuss. Unlike other snorkels that come in complicated shapes, the Silicone Soft Flex Tube snorkel conforms to the natural contour of the human face and that makes it a wearable piece of snorkeling device.

Air In, Water Out: The aerodynamic splash guard outfitted on the top end of the snorkel maximizes the entry of air upon inhalation while minimizing the seepage of water into the tube. The snorkel's tube sports a unique curvature that is determined to prevent water from splashing through the top no matter how strong the tides may be. Moreover, its slim and flexible tube easily glides through the surface of the water so as to reduce drag.

For Snorkelers and Scuba Divers Alike: Snorkelers will find that the IST Proline Silicone Soft Flex Tube with semi-dry top is equipped with a relatively large purge valve that is configured for the easy drain of water. This feature will prove to be helpful when averting the inflow of seawater into the snorkel as the user sucks in air. For scuba divers using snorkeling devices for breathing while lingering close to the surface, the silicone mouthpiece of the snorkel easily slithers out of the way once the diver descends deeper into the water column. Indeed, users can only expect multiple benefits from this basic snorkel. Now that makes the IST Proline Silicone Soft Flex Tube truly a worthwhile purchase.

Snorkeling in Akumal, Mexico

Akumal Bay is known for its many species of sea turtles which use the beaches for breeding, feeding and rearing their young. This provides an optimal chance to see the animals in their natural habitat, including the many colorful species of fish and plant life.

Snorkeling and scuba diving are perhaps the best activities to pursue during a visit to Akumal, but snorkeling is a less physically demanding and technical option. With a short instruction course and a ideal site choice, snorkeling is quite easy for even first-time novices.

One popular site for snorkeling in Akumal is the Yal-ku lagoon. This site is an extremely rare environment where fresh water coincides with salt water from the ocean. The combination of the two types of water is called a "halocline" effect.

Only very specific species can survive and prosper in this halocline lagoon, and the mixture of salt and fresh water supplies creates an changed appearance of the water itself. Many fish found in this area are not found anywhere else in the world, and have been featured on many travel channel specials in recent years.

Casa Cenote is a lagoon featuring mangroves and bright fish displays. Some snorkelers find the fossils in Cenote at Dosojos quite fun for a day of exploration. Many of the fossils seen at Dosojos date back to original civilizations that once occupied the area.

Snorkel lessons are always a good thing forbeginners prior to traveling to one of these sites. Although the activity is easy, some find that they are uneasy with the equipment or unsure how to best observe the underwater scenery while safely using the equipment.

A popular activity for locals and tourists alike is night snorkeling. Typically, a light is used in conjunction with traditional snorkeling equipment for this activity.

Many fish which are not viewed during daylight hours can be viewed when snorkeling after nightfall. This is typically because they are night-feeders or resting during the daytime.

The octopus is a perfect example of this spectacle. Octopuses only come out to feed at night, and change color when a light shines on them. Virtually all of the life seen at night are safe for snorkelers, so night snorkeling is a safe activity as well.

Plant life and some types of fish are also luminescent after dark. This creates greenish lights glowing either continuously or flashing at night - quite a show for someone who is only used to snorkeling during the daytime!

Planning Safaga Vacations

There are very few areas of the world that offer access to world-class water sports such as scuba diving, snorkeling, and kite and windsurfing as well as therapeutic waters and health treatments, and close proximity to some of the most well-known and recognizable historical locations in the world. The port town of Safaga on the eastern coast of Egypt is one place that can boast such a comprehensive appeal.

Safaga vacations are fast becoming a popular choice with native Egyptians and international travelers alike, and this is due to a number of interesting factors. The first is that the region is a recognized destination for champion kite surfers and windsurfers, and was in fact the host of the 1993 World Championships in the sport of windsurfing.

Additionally, it is also known for its remarkable scuba diving, considered to be among the very best in the entire Red Sea area. Those enjoying Safaga vacations dedicated to diving will be guaranteed to sight sharks and mantas as well as towering reefs completely unspoiled by human interference.

While the major sporting activities within the waters are the cause for many Safaga vacations, the physical waters themselves are brining more and more people to the area. Safaga is a leading exporter of phosphates, and the area's black sand dunes and mineral springs, as well as the highly saline and mineral-rich waters bring many arthritis patients and those looking to improve the condition of their skin to the area as well. In fact, Safaga is lining up to be a major therapeutic tourism center within the coming decade.

Safaga vacations can also be about the enjoyment of the entire region since the port also provides daily cruise ship transportation to areas such as Jordan and Saudi Arabia. This means that day trips to area like Petra are easy to arrange and enjoy.

Finally, Safaga is only around one hundred and thirty miles from Luxor, the historic location of many major features of ancient Pharaonic Egypt. Visitors enjoying Safaga vacations could easily plan a day trip to the ancient capital and arrange a visit to the Valley of the Kings and the Temples of Karnak and Luxor before making the short journey back to their hotel or resort.

Safaga is currently home to some excellent hotels, bungalows and accommodations that are continuing to make it one of the more popular and remarkable choices for a vacation in the Red Sea Riviera region of Eastern Egypt.

Enjoying Al Quseir Vacations

Visitors to the temple of Queen Hatshepsut in Deir el-Bahri, near the Valley of the Kings in Luxor, might be able to recognize the name of the town known today as Al Quseir if they understood hieroglyphics. The powerful ancient queen sent her people on an exploratory mission through the region on their way to the legendary land of Punt (known today as Ethiopia) and had it documented on the temple walls.

Al Quseir played a tremendous role in Egyptian history, and then faded to a little used port after the inauguration of the Suez Canal in the 1860s. This is because it had served as the shortest route from the Nile River to the Red Sea until that time. Al Quseir had attracted the attention of many great leaders throughout history, including Roman emperors, Ottoman rulers, Napoleon Bonaparte and the British Empire among them. It was also a major gateway to Mecca, with many pilgrimages passing through the city's walls. Once it ceased to serve in any of its old capacities however, it dwindled to a quiet harbor town.

Today however many people are returning to enjoy Al Quseir vacations in the new resorts and hotels that have been developed to serve the thriving diving and snorkeling community that have recently appeared.

Interestingly, Al Quseir vacations are becoming a great deal more than excellent scuba and snorkeling trips, the local government recognizes the historical significance of their community as well and have worked to preserve and restore the older buildings in the town, and to make visitors on Al Quseir vacations aware of the amazing story that surrounds them.

This means that Al Quseir vacations can be seen as one of the most unique opportunities in Egypt. Generally, a visitor looking to enjoy the water sports so popular along the eastern shore of the country would not have a great deal of access to the remarkable historical sites and destinations of the land as well. In Al Quseir however, a visitor can spend a day or two exploring the waters and enjoying the warm and sunny beaches, and then take some time to visit the historic Wadi Hammamat, where more than two hundred hieroglyphic tablets remain, or they can explore the Myos Hormos, which are the remains of the original port and where ancient structures and Roman pottery remain intact and preserved. They can then return to their modern hotel or resort where they will be able to sample some of the local cuisine or fresh seafood before heading out to watch the sun set along the beautiful shore.

Taking Marsa Alam Vacations

The "Red Sea Riviera" which spans the eastern shore of Egypt as well as a majority of the coast of the Sinai Peninsula has long been known for its remarkable resorts and luxurious hotels. Most of the popular towns have thriving shopping, dining and nightlife scenes and make for a unique change for those who inhabit some of the nearby cities and towns. These are only some of the reasons that the Red Sea Riviera towns are so actively visited.

Another reason for the frequent visits from native Egyptians and world wide tourists alike is the incredible conditions for diving, snorkeling and water sports that are presented within the surrounding waters of this entire area. The Red Sea, Gulf of Suez and Gulf of Aqaba all host unique wildlife, corals and creatures that draw millions of enthusiasts to the region each year.

One town which is becoming increasingly popular is Marsa Alam, which is located along the southern region of the Red Sea Riviera, close to the Tropic of Cancer and Arabian Desert. Here visitors enjoy the lush scenery, full of palm trees and soothing breezes from the coastal waters.

Marsa Alam vacations tend to be all about the diving, snorkeling and water activities made so enjoyable by the special conditions of the surrounding waters. Divers frequently encounter well-preserved or completely unspoiled diving sites. This is due in part to the majority of the Red Sea Riviera now falling under governmental protection as a national park, and the fact that most dives are now heavily regulated. Protecting both the flora and fauna from disturbances and the harmful effects of divers who may "collect" creatures will go a long way to maintaining the popularity of the area and increasing its visitation.

Those enjoying Marsa Alam vacations will be able to view dugongs (similar to manatees), Red Sea Spinner Dolphins, coral and hammerhead sharks among many other creatures when they scuba dive in the area. There are also ample opportunities to learn how to sail, surf and snorkel as well.

Additionally, the area is in close proximity to some interesting "inland" activities, including a nearby temple of pharaoh Seti I, who is an often-discussed pharaoh of the Nineteenth Dynasty.

Those looking to enjoy Marsa Alam vacations will also have a wide range of accommodations to choose from, including comprehensive resorts offering diving packages, training and certification as well as more simple hotels which provide an excellent place to rest after a day in the warm Egyptian sun.

Taking El Gouna Vacations

A visit to El Gouna in Egypt means one thing - vacation. This is because the entire town is a resort completely owned and operated by a single group specializing in El Gouna vacations. Located only a short distance from the wildly popular resort town of Hurghada, El Gouna is able to provide a significantly more personalized vacation experience.

The town is situated along the Red Sea Riviera region of Egypt which is known for its fabulous diving and snorkeling that draws millions of visitors each year. Additionally, the area is also recognized for its gorgeous beaches, safe warm waters and close proximity to such major cities as Luxor and Cairo.

El Gouna vacations have only been possible since the early 1990s, when the Orascom Hotels chain began taking visitors at this incredible resort. It is a "one stop" destination with fourteen different hotels for visitors to choose from. Additionally, there are hundreds of apartments and villas that serve as a year round home to the many investors who make the town their permanent or seasonal residences. Today there are nearly ten thousand full time residents in El Gouna and many of them are the owners of the more than two thousand private residences.

In addition to excellent accommodations, El Gouna vacations include comprehensive activities, including secure facilities for those learning to scuba dive or snorkel before they tackle the more challenging waters of the Red Sea nearby.

El Gouna vacations mean comprehensive services and this includes dining in the more than one hundred restaurants, bars and eateries throughout the resort. El Gouna vacations are also earth friendly vacations since the entire resort - all eleven million square meters of it - is known to be the most environmentally friendly destination in all of Egypt.

Of course El Gouna vacations do not mean that a visitor must forgo the many scenic and historical wonders of Egypt while they enjoy all that El Gouna has to offer. Simple and easy to arrange day trips are booked frequently from the Hurghada airport and the resort gladly shuttles their guests to and from their exciting adventures. Both Cairo and Luxor have much to offer, and many residents and visitors make a point of at least one or two days in these cities.

Nuweiba Vacations

Between the popular vacation destinations of Taba and Dahab is the town of Nuweiba, a newly discovered region of pristine beaches, popular camping grounds and excellent scuba diving and snorkeling in the waters of the ever-popular "Red Sea Riviera". Many camping, scuba, snorkeling and hiking enthusiasts plan Nuweiba vacations as a way of enjoying all that the region has to offer while avoiding some of the crowded beach conditions of the more well-known towns or cities. Nuweiba vacations can be enjoyed at the high-end resorts that have appeared along the shores in the last ten years, or they can occur in the excellent camping grounds visited frequently by international backpackers, Bedouin tribes and Egyptian and Israeli vacationers. The far end of the town provides those on Nuweiba vacations with the largest number of choices, some with small cottages located directly on the beach, and others with full-service accommodations including meals and comprehensive diving services.

The town itself has a developing tourist culture, with the downtown area dedicated to shopping, dining and the sale of locally made goods. In fact many enjoy Nuweiba vacations simply to have access to the wide availability of native handicrafts at significantly lower prices than anywhere else on the Sinai Peninsula.

Another benefit of Nuweiba vacations is the uncrowded diving conditions, and the reefs near the area of town called "Tarabin" are noted for their excellent and perfectly preserved conditions. There are also several other well-known sites in Nuweiba, and these include the "Devils Head" and "South Cove" dive sites.

Many people enjoying Nuweiba vacations will schedule a camel trek into the neighboring desert or canyons, and here they will usually arrange a meal or tea with the Bedouins of the area who tend to inhabit smaller oases scattered throughout the region. The more adventurous people on Nuweiba vacations will plan a hike into the Colored Canyon, which is considered a fairly easy hike, even for those with no climbing or prior trekking experience. Most of the local Bedouins are happy to assist visitors in their trekking needs as well.

Nuweiba vacations provide visitors with the same opportunities as others staying along this stretch of the Red Sea Riviera, but without any of the crowds or commercial development that has taken place elsewhere. While this may mean a limited number of accommodations providers and dining establishments, it is only a very short drive to such busy and developed areas as the famous Sharm el-Sheikh or Taba.

Enjoying Taba Vacations

Where Egypt meets Israel is the town of Taba, and it is where many visitors begin their exploration of the "Red Sea Riviera". This is a region full of scuba diving and snorkeling opportunities within the protected waters of Egypt's national parks. It is also the beginning of a long chain of wonderful resorts and hotels meant to house the many visitors who come to enjoy all that the area has to offer.

Taba vacations are a common event in the lives of many Egyptian and Israeli tourists. This is due to the location of the town being so convenient to residents of both countries as well as the hotels in Taba, some which even contain casinos.

Many Taba vacations are the result purely of an interest in the diving and snorkeling of the area, and while this region is not known for the vast coral gardens that are frequently seen farther south, the waters around Taba are home to unusually large numbers of fish and marine life that even shallow water snorkelers will be able to see and to enjoy.

In addition to swimming, diving and snorkeling those enjoying Taba vacations can also enjoy glass bottom boat rides which provide uninhibited views of the coral reefs and marine life of the Gulf of Aqaba. Visitors interested in more active water sports can try windsurfing, fishing, and sailing in the sheltered waters as well.

Many people on Taba vacations also hire camels for rides on the beaches and in the nearby canyons, while the more daring hire ATV or "quads" in order to explore this remarkable region. All visitors are reminded that Taba is known for the high temperatures along the beaches and in the canyons, and are constantly encouraged to use caution during the hottest parts of the day.

Only a few short decades ago, the entire Sinai Peninsula was a controversial location, which Egypt and Israel continually fought over, but the early 1980s saw a peace agreement, and Taba was the final location from which the Israelis withdrew. This means the hotels and resorts in the town are also among the newest available, with most earning a three-star rating or higher from professional organizations and guest reviews.

Taba vacations are quickly becoming as popular as those in the far southern regions of the Sinai Peninsula and Red Sea Riviera, and the excellence of the accommodations and wide variety of activities will only continue to increase the number of visitors heading to this exciting town.

Information on Dahab Vacations

There are many regions of the world that offer similar enjoyments and pleasures as their nearest neighboring towns or cities. For example, when one says the "French Riviera" there are instantly images of small villages, opulent casinos and interesting scenery all perched on the high cliffs overlooking the waters below. Unfortunately, an area of Egypt has also earned the "Riviera" title, but the "Red Sea Riviera" is not a continuous chain of similar villages, shops, restaurants and hotels. Certainly it has its more luxurious destinations; such as Sharm el-Sheikh, but it also has it's far less formal or commercial towns as well.

Among the most beloved and well-known of these is Dahab, which lies on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula. Those enjoying Dahab vacations will still have access to the excellent accommodations, delicious foods and natural wonders that make the entire region so appealing, but Dahab vacations will be missing a great deal of the shopping, busy streets and tourist services that appear elsewhere. While these are handy and convenient, they can also prevent some visitors from seeing all that a particular town or region has to offer.

Dahab vacations will not generally include guided tours or large boat rides, but will introduce visitors to some amazing natural and local sights. For example, most visitors will visit the Ein Khudra Oasis, which is a Bedouin oasis in the desert outside of the city. Here they can mingle with the tribal people, purchase their crafts and goods, and even take tea or a meal with them.

Of course the scuba diving and snorkeling at Dahab are as wildly popular as the waters in the neighboring towns and cities, and the reefs in the area are considered among some of the finest.

Most Dahab vacations also include a walking tour of the Old Port, with ruins of the port and village which date back over one thousand years. Additionally, most visitors to the town enjoy a stroll along the Lagoona, which is the ideal spot to learn how to windsurf or simply stretch out on the brilliant white sands. In fact, most Dahab vacations tend to be about doing very little and simply enjoying the lovely scenery and wonderful surroundings.

For those who want a little more excitement during Dahab vacations, a short trip to nearby Petra in Jordan will certainly stimulate the imagination and present a sense of wonder, or a day trip to nearby St. Catherine's Monastery or Mount Sinai will also add a great deal of interest to a trip. St. Catherine's is one of the oldest operating monasteries in the world, and of course Mount Sinai is believed to be the location where Moses received the Ten Commandments.

The Fun of Hurghada Vacations

Everyone needs a vacation, and the town of Hurghada along the eastern seaboard of Egypt is quickly becoming a popular destination for Egyptians and international visitors alike. Hurghada vacations are usually initiated by an interest in scuba diving, because this area of the world famous "Red Sea Riviera" provides enthusiasts and novices alike with some of the world's finest diving conditions and scenery.

Over the past twenty years however, Hurghada vacations have also become popular due to the wide range of hotels and resorts being built in the area. Of course, a surge in visitation has also created a wide variety of fascinating shops, restaurants and activities in addition to the excellent scuba and snorkeling in the waters around Hurghada.

Outdoor enthusiasts can take Hurghada vacations to enjoy riding a "quad" or ATV in the desert areas surrounding the town; they also can partake of the excellent swimming, boating and diving in the safe and sparkling waters as well.

The region is also home to the remaining Bedouin tribes, and many people make a point of visiting these friendly people and purchasing some of their beautifully made goods, or of enjoying a cup of locally brewed "chai" tea with them.

For those interested in taking desert journeys during their Hurghada vacations, the town is not far from some of the oldest monasteries in the world; most of which are open for visitation.

Hurghada vacations can also serve as a wonderful introduction to scuba diving or snorkeling, with many companies certifying novice divers or teaching them how to snorkel in the shallow waters of the many small beaches and bays. For those who have no interest in swimming with the native fish, there are popular glass-bottomed boats which allow guests to view the remarkable coral and sea life from the dry deck above.

Most Hurghada vacations will require local accommodation, and as stated earlier the town is amply supplied with an excellent variety for guests to choose from. The modern part of the town, called Sekalla, is where most of the newer structures are located, and many are built in an interconnected fashion that will allow a visitor to travel from one hotel or resort to another simply by passing through a lovely garden or along a well-made path.

Hurghada vacations are becoming increasingly popular with visitors from around the world; they provide a view of Egypt which is not typical of the common perception of the ancient land. This modernized town allows easy access to such places as Cairo and Luxor, but also provides opportunities unavailable elsewhere in the country.

Exploring Sharm El Sheikh Vacations

The remarkably popular tourist destination known as Sharm El Sheikh along the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt is among the most visited in the entire Arab world. Interestingly, it has really only been a truly tourist friendly spot since the 1980s. Following the signing of a peace agreement between Egypt and Israel the entire region has slowly evolved into a high quality tourist destination which is most often referred to as the "Red Sea Riviera".

Since the early 1980s Sharm El Sheikh vacations have become one of the most preferred choices of Egyptians and international visitors alike. This is because of the wide variety of hotels and resorts that have "sprung up" since the peace agreement, and because of the availability of excellent scuba diving and snorkeling in the region's surrounding waters.

Of course most Sharm El Sheikh vacations will not be strictly dedicated to time spent underwater because the town is also a world class destination for shopping, desert adventures which include camel trekking, ATV or quad-riding and exploration as well as pilgrimages to Mount Sinai and the Monastery of St. Catherine in the nearby desert. Some guests will even make the trip for the unique food and social opportunities, including the chance to eat at some American fast food chains!

Some people also take Sharm El Sheikh vacations in order to enjoy the opportunity of meeting the remaining Bedouin tribes of the area, and spend time amongst these friendly people. Generally they will make their handicrafts available for purchase, and often invite guests to take tea or a meal with them.

Many Sharm El Sheikh vacations are all about the resorts, and the area provides a nice array of accommodations, including luxury resorts that cater to every possible need, or those especially designed for families which provide a number of activities and events meant to educate, entertain and relax their guests.

For those taking Sharm El Sheikh vacations in order to enjoy the many opportunities for scuba diving there are a wide variety of professional diving outfits that will provide equipment, boats and even guides when necessary. For the most part the majority of divers in the Sharm El Sheikh area will spend their time in the Ras Mohammed National Park. This is a strongly protected wildlife area, which forbids visitors from disturbing or collecting specimens or wildlife of any kind whatsoever. This ensures that many other visitors will want to plan Sharm El Sheikh vacations and diving excursions for years to come.
